Popularity of Anti-Animal Cruelty issues

So over the last several days, I have seen many posting regarding animal cruelty, picking rescues over buying. Issues with blaming the breeder/owner rather than the breed such as this article,

Why We Do What We Do

OR this Site/Group?

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with any of it. I'm just wondering why this has
all of a sudden gone "viral" with people posting on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

My animals aren't from the kennel, but they weren't purchased either from a store nor a breeder. Basically they we about to go to the kennel, and now they are part of our family.

I moved when and where I did because they would allow my animals, this was important to us as they are members of my family.

Shaggy has been with us for 11 years now, for a breed that median age is 11.5 years, he's doing really well.

So my question to you now is, do you always feel this way, or are you posting these links now because it's popular?
