Cyber Camp Develops Tomorrow’s IT Security Pros

Government Technology website has an article about an information security challenge:

At 10:49 a.m. last Friday, Prof. Dan Manson cupped his hands over his mouth and shouted to seven teams of five eager people that they could begin a virtual Capture the Flag competition at the 2011 U.S. Cyber Challenge Summer Camp at Cal Poly Pomona.

The players manned laptops and began the simulation in which they entered a network to infiltrate servers, conduct penetration tests, analyze attacks and contents of files, overtake control of networked services and crack passwords.

First day of school woes, sexism and discrimination?

Yesterday was the first day of school here in Tracy. My older two are both in High School now. My wife was having some difficulty getting Cassie registered for high school as the office was closed whenever she tried to go there. And they weren't registered at the end of last year because she didn't have the TDaP booster shot yet which is required by California state law.

So yesterday my wife goes to the office and attempts to register our daughter for classes and is given the run around saying that she doesn't have everything she needs. Back and forth to the school several times.

Cornerstones of Trust 2011

Yesterday was the 2011 Cornerstones of Trust conference in Foster City, and we had a great turnout. There were 29 sponsor booths from various information security vendors. Four great tracks that were mostly full.

During one of the track session that I attended during the event was the Computer Incident Response Planning session presented by Neal McCarthy.

Words with friends update - Android

I was super excited when this came out, however, the last few updates have made this game unplayable. I've been trying to play for several days now and all of my games have blank playing boards and scores of 0.

Today my wife asked me why I resigned all my games.

I didn't resign any games. Come on Zynga, what's going on with this now?

Bike is Getting Fixed again

So I took my bike to the shop this morning rather than just buying a new battery so I can get my brakes looked at as well as to make sure the KIPASS system is still ok. While there it was pointed out that both my tires are at a point where they should be replaced.

So here's the things that are being replaced right now.

  • new Bridgestone Battleaxe BT-023 tires
  • Yuasa Battery
  • OEM Break Pads

I'm also having the dongle installed from a new Battery Tender, that was $39.00.

RSA SecurID data loss breach - opinion update

I am still seeing and hearing a fair amount of tweets and speculation about what the RSA Breach that was announced by Art Coviello, Executive Chairman, RSA.

There seems to be a lot of people worried about this particular breach stating that the RSA SecurID tokens have become "useless" or advocating that you request that RSA replace every one.

Motorcycle Battery woes

This weekend I went into my garage and checked the battery on my motorcycle, knowing that it would be low because I have not ridden it in a while. Several reasons that I haven't ridden include the fact that the office at work is STILL being renovated, the weather has been very wet here in Northern California and I don't have anyone close by to ride with.

So when I go in there, I press the key in, and turn the ignition on, flip through the dash computer to the battery status page and note that the batter is sitting at about 8.4v.
